Step one
Fifteen days from today is November 11th. It will be the second Veterans' Day in over 30 years that I have recognized my father as a war veteran.
Some people ignore the fact that they are overweight, others live in the denial of alcoholism or childhood abuse, for most of my life I have chosen to ignore the 11 months my father spent in Vietnam.
I'm not quite sure why this is, but I'm ready to figure it out.

I'm looking forward to reading this blog. Too often as children we forget or deny that our parents had a life of complexity long before we become aware in this world. You are a rare person to tackle this and I honor your father as well for sharing his experience.
